Historic Washington State Park will host an opening reception for the “Artists of Washington” exhibit on Saturday, September 23, at 1:30 p.m. at the 1874 Visitor Information Center, 100 SW Morrison St., Washington. Steven Carlson, expert on local artist Effie Anderson Smith, will speak at the reception. “Artists of Washington” will showcase some of the work of different artists from Washington and Hempstead County in the late nineteenth century and up to the present. In the nineteenth century, several local residents had a wonderful talent for painting and went on to become famous nationwide for their work. Artwork of local residents Jenny Delony Rice, Mary Carrigan, and Ann Bittick will be some of the works on display.
